Building Pads That Never Settle Or Crack Slabs
A concrete slab poured over unevenly compacted or unstripped topsoil will crack within months. Organic black dirt shrinks, swells, and decomposes, leaving subterranean voids that cause foundation deflection.
At Knights Construction and Supplies, every house pad starts with thorough topsoil removal down to solid virgin subsoil. We balance cut-and-fill slopes, haul engineered structural fill dirt, and run heavy vibratory rollers on each lift to achieve standard proctor density before the concrete contractor sets forms.
Organic Layer Removal
We strip and stockpile all topsoil away from the building footprint. Topsoil is saved on-site for final perimeter landscaping rather than wasted.
Dual-Slope Laser Survey
Our machinery is guided by precision laser transmitters, ensuring dead-level pad surfaces or intentional micro-slopes required for water management.
Vibratory Roller Compacting
Fill dirt is spread in 6"-8" lifts and rolled with multi-ton vibratory compaction to prevent post-build settlement and sinkage.
Stormwater Diversion
We cut protective diversion swales around the pad so storm rains shed around the construction zone rather than washing out footings.
